Contract Types
Workloom supports different types of contracts to reflect real-world working arrangements.
Available types
Employment contract
For permanent or fixed-term employees. Typically includes a defined start date and optionally an end date for fixed-term arrangements.
Contractor agreement
For freelancers or contractors working on a project or time-limited basis. Usually has a clear end date and is scoped to specific work.
Internship
For interns or trainees. Works similarly to a fixed-term employment contract, often with a mandatory end date.
Custom
If none of the above fits, you can use a custom contract type and name it yourself.
Choosing the right type
When in doubt, ask: how is this person being paid and what is the legal nature of the relationship?
- Full-time or part-time employee → Employment contract
- Project-based or hourly freelancer → Contractor agreement
- Student on placement → Internship
- Something else entirely → Custom
Can you change a contract type later?
Yes — you can edit a contract's type at any time. If someone transitions from contractor to employee, create a new contract (with a new start date) rather than editing the old one. This keeps your history accurate.
When someone transitions roles, end the old contract and create a new one. Don't overwrite it — you'll want that history later.
